Rajkot: A 30-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his wife after a quarrel on Monday night at Sanakhla village, in the Bhanvad police jurisdiction of Devbhumi Dwarka district. Nandram Garwal, 30, allegedly attacked his wife, Rekha, also 30, during an argument over watering the farm where both worked as labourers. An FIR was filed on Tuesday by the farm owner, Pratap Kodiyatar, who had hired the couple. Bhanvad police registered a case of murder under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. According to the FIR, a quarrel broke out between the couple while they were working in the field. During the fight, Nandram allegedly struck Rekha on the head with a spade, causing grave injuries. He also allegedly hit her on the right eye and chest. Rekha was taken to a govt hospital in a critical condition, where she died. The investigating officer, Chetan Desai, said the couple, who were from Ratlam district in MP, had come to the area just a day earlier to work for Kodiyatar. Police said they had worked for him earlier too. A preliminary inquiry showed that Rekha was Nandram’s second wife and that they had married eight or nine months ago. She had a child from her first marriage, who now lives with her parents. Police seized the spade used in the assault, and further investigation is underway.
