Bhubaneswar: Police on Saturday arrested one Sachin Kumar, 22 for allegedly using another man to appear for an examination on his behalf and avail a job in the Institute of Hotel Management here. The investigation revealed that on June 30, a written examination and skill test were conducted at the institute for the post of lower division clerk.In this examination, Sachin secured the highest marks and was offered an appointment. Later, following a news report about impersonation during the exam, doubts arose, and the institute requested Sahid Nagar police station to verify the candidate’s identity.On Friday, when Sachin came to join office, verification through CCTV footage, attendance register, application form, and other records clearly established that the person who appeared for the exam and the person who came to join were different individuals. During the investigation, CCTV footage, exam-related documents, application forms, attendance lists, and other relevant records were seized. Upon interrogation, the accused admitted that one Anuj Sharma alias Singh had appeared in the exam on his behalf. “There was an agreement to pay approximately Rs 7 to 8 lakh after securing the job. It was also revealed that his uncle Sumer Singh and cousin Navneet Singh were involved in this conspiracy,” a police officer said. Sachin Kumar was arrested and produced in court. He was remanded in judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected.
