Bhubaneswar: Puri police on Sunday arrested a man for murdering his friend the day before.The accused was identified as Gobinda Paikaray, known locally as Kalu. He killed his friend due to a fight over liquor.According to the police, Kalu had gathered with his friends – Samir Barik alias Tapu, Babula Behera, Kuna Pradhan and Kuna Das, all in their 20s – near Dhobakhala under Sea Beach police limits in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday since he had promised them a liquor party. “But when Kalu failed to keep his promise, a heated argument broke out between him and friends. Some of them were already drunk and they were waiting for the promised liquor from Kalu. Barik and Behera snatched Kalu’s mobile phone, which angered Kalu,” Puri SP Prateek Singh said, adding, “Kalu rushed to his home, which was nearby, and brought his sword and started attacking his friends.”The group scattered in panic but Barik fell down after suffering severe injuries on his neck. Kalu then picked up a brick and smashed Barik’s head, resulting in his death on the spot. “Behera, who was injured in the scuffle, managed to escape and is currently admitted at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack,” the SP added.
