Jaipur: A man allegedly strangled his newborn daughter to death inside a private hospital in Jaipur after becoming upset over the birth of his third consecutive daughter. The accused was arrested Wednesday.SHO (Chandwaji) Rajveer Singh identified the accused as Ravi Kumar Yadav (28), a resident of Neemrana in Kotputli-Behror district.The incident occurred at a private hospital under Chandwaji police station limits Tuesday. Police said the infant had been admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) after birth. According to investigators, the father took the baby out of the NICU on the pretext of feeding her. Police suspect he strangled the newborn before bringing her back to the ward and sitting beside her as if nothing had happened.The incident came to light when attendants of another patient noticed that the baby had not cried for a prolonged period and alerted hospital staff. Doctors examined the infant and found injury marks on her neck along with bloodstains around her throat. They immediately informed the police.A police team reached the hospital and detained the father for questioning. The baby’s body was sent for post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.During the preliminary investigation, police found that the accused was allegedly distressed over the birth of a third daughter. Investigators are questioning him to ascertain the sequence of events and whether the act was premeditated.Police said statements of hospital staff and family members are being recorded, while CCTV footage from the hospital is also being examined as part of the investigation. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
