Vadodara: A Facebook ad promising roles in two Hindi films led a Vadodara man to pay Rs 1.12 lakh as a ‘refundable deposit’ for costumes and registration, only for the purported acting opportunity and money to vanish.Hitesh Tikadiya, a resident of Waghodia Road, on Friday lodged a complaint against one Sanjeev Mishra at Gorwa police station.Tikadiya said he came across an ad on Facebook offering opportunities to work in films. Interested in the offer, he sent his photograph, audio clips and videos to the mobile number mentioned in the ad.He later received a call from one Sanjeev Mishra, who allegedly told him that he had been selected to act in two Hindi films.The next day, Mishra contacted him again and said that shooting had already begun. He told Tikadiya that he would have to travel by air for the assignment and asked him to deposit money towards ‘costumes and registration’. Mishra promised that the money would be refunded later.Tikadiya then transferred Rs 1.12 lakh over multiple transactions.Police said the complainant never got any call for the promised films. Instead, the accused kept making demands for more payments.Tikadiya contacted the Cybercrime helpline and later approached police.
