As per the KU syndicate decision, the survey directorate would be requested to carry out the work.

T’puram: University of Kerala (KU) syndicate meeting on Monday decided to carry out a comprehensive survey of land under the university. The move comes in the wake of the controversy over the allegation that CPM had encroached university land for the AKG Centre for Research and Studies. As per the syndicate decision, the survey directorate would be requested to carry out the work.In 1977, the A K Antony-led govt had handed over the land free of cost to the AKG Memorial Committee for starting a research centre. In 1984, it was alleged that CPM had usurped more land from the university. When former vice-chancellor J V Vilanilam called for the survey of the university land in 1992, SFI and CPM raised fake degree allegation against him. However, when the AKG land controversy came up for discussion in the KU syndicate, none of the CPM members opposed measuring and assessing the land. The syndicate also decided to formulate rules, on the basis of UGC conditions, for granting emeritus professorship to retired university professors. The syndicate decided to directly oversee the pending construction works under the Rs 100 crore PM USHA project if necessary.
