Nagpur: Members of the notorious ‘Koyta gang’ went on a rampage in Mahendra Colony in Jaitala area under MIDC police station limits. The gang assaulted citizens with koytas (machetes) and sticks, damaged vehicles and property, and issued threats.As per the FIR lodged by Tushar Kharole, 33, a resident of Mahendra Colony, the incident occurred around 11.30 pm on Friday. Shubham alias Nimb Nimbulkar of Ekatmata Nagar, Krish Kotangle of Jaitala, Ritvik Harne and their accomplices arrived in the colony armed with koytas, said the complainant.Tushar stepped out of his house after hearing screams and witnessed the gang attacking local residents. When he tried to intervene, one of the accused charged at him with a koyta.

Tushar rushed back to his house. The miscreants then smashed the windscreen of his car. They also overturned an egg stall and damaged shed of a photoframe shop.The gang assaulted Takchand Raut and Ritwik Deshmukh with sticks. Panicked residents locked themselves indoors as the Koyta gang created chaos in the locality.Tushar alerted MIDC police station. But before a police team could reach the spot, the gang sped away on motorcycles.MIDC police registered a case against Nimbulkar, Kotangle, Harne and unidentified accomplices. Investigation is under way to ascertain the motive behind the attack and arrest the accused.Residents demanded strict action against the gang, which has repeatedly created ruckus in the area.
