Madikeri: Various sports activities are scheduled to be held during April in Kodagu. The district is preparing to host the annual Kodava hockey festival, leather ball Kodava cricket tournaments, and a football tournament to enthral sports enthusiasts.Mukkatira (Devanageri) Kodava Football Cup is being organised for the fifth year this time, and the tournament will be held from April 7 at Althon Turf Ground in Gonikoppal. Alongside the Guinness Book record-holding hockey fest and the cricket tournament of the Kodavas, the football tournament between Kodava families will be held in April. This year, Mukkatira (Devanageri) Kodava family has taken the responsibility of hosting the football cup. It is organising a 5-2 format football tournament. The tournament is following in the footsteps of the Kodava Hockey Fest and aims to unite the community. The tourney recorded participation from 74 Kodava families last year, and the organisers expect over 100 teams this year.The organisers confirmed that over Rs 25 lakh is being spent on the tournament, and winning teams will be honoured with trophies and cash prizes. Along with the football festival, cultural programmes and other rituals are also being hosted, Mukkatira Kishan Karumbaiah, who is the president of the organising team, stated.
