Thiruvananthapuram: Food and public administration minister G R Anil said that a letter will be sent to Centre requesting relaxation in the restrictions on the supply of LPG cylinders.Anil said that the shortage of cylinders for industrial use is causing serious repercussions in the state. The minister met with representatives of oil companies to discuss the issue on Tuesday. He directed authorities concerned to take strict measures to prevent hoarding and diversion of cylinders. “Squads will be formed under the leadership of district collectors and district supply officers to ensure the availability of cylinders,” he said. Oil companies have informed that there was no shortage in the supply of cylinders for domestic use and that restrictions would not affect institutions like hospitals, which need to be prioritised, he added. Following the war, there has been a scarcity in the availability of LPG stock from Middle East, leading Union govt to impose restrictions on the distribution of cylinders. Currently, a new booking is only possible 25 days after the previous one. This has caused significant concern among consumers.
