Mangaluru: The Mahamastakabhisheka of Bhagavan Sri Bahubali Swami in Karkala will be held in Feb 2027, with preparations under way, Bhagavan Sri Bahubali Swami Mahamastakabhisheka Samiti working president MN Rajendra Kumar said Sunday.He said the event would be organised in cooperation with the govt and the community. The 42-ft statue was installed in 1432 AD by Pandya Raja of the Bhairavasara lineage, following religious rituals inspired by sages. The Mahamastakabhisheka was earlier held in 1954, 1990, 2002 and 2015. Along with spreading Lord Bahubali’s message of non-violence, sacrifice, truth, peace and righteousness, the festival will include public welfare projects, Kumar said.Proposals seeking Rs 82.3 crore have been submitted to the govt to create infrastructure, including attalige platforms, renovation of Tyagi Bhavana and Mataji Bhavana near the Jain Mutt, renovation of an auditorium and construction of borewells for water supply.The event date and the inauguration of the organising committee’s office will be announced on April 19 at the Danashale Bhagavan Sri Bahubali Pravachana Mandira in Karkala. Swasthi Sri Lalithakeerthi Bhattaraka Pattacharyavarya Mahaswamiji of the Karkala Jain Mutt will be present. The date will be announced by the committee president and Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade. Udupi district minister Laxmi Hebbalkar will inaugurate the office, while minister for planning, programme monitoring and statistics D Sudhakar will inaugurate the public function.
