Kanpur: A 23-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death near a railway track in Kanpur’s Babupurwa area on Thursday in what police suspect was a revenge killing linked to a long-running dispute over the alleged harassment of the victim’s sister. The accused is absconding, and three police teams have been formed to trace him.The victim’s blood-soaked body was found around 11 am near a railway track close to Diggi Talab under the Babupurwa police station limits.According to the police, the victim had left home around 9 am to answer nature’s call but did not return. A short while later, locals informed his family about a body lying near the railway track, following which the police were alerted.Police said the victim had suffered fatal head injuries and that his head and face had been crushed with an iron rod.The family has accused Arun Gupta, a resident of Sainpurwa, of murdering the youth. They alleged that Arun had been harassing the victim’s 20-year-old sister for the past two years and had recently had a heated altercation with her brother over the issue.The woman alleged that Arun used to make obscene gestures at her and had threatened the family with dire consequences after her brother confronted him. She said she had lodged a complaint against Arun in July last year, following which he was arrested.According to the family, Arun was released a few days later and allegedly resumed harassing her.Police said the accused is absconding and that three teams have been constituted to arrest him.
