Madikeri: A plantation worker was seriously injured in a wild elephant attack at Yadur village on Sunday. The injured worker, Annappa, has been admitted to the District Hospital in Madikeri.The 40-year-old had been staying with his mother on a coffee estate for the past two months. He had gone into the plantation in search of his employer’s cow when a wild elephant attacked him. Virajpet Range Forest Officer Shivaram and Ammatthi deputy range forest officer Manoj rushed to the spot immediately. They rescued Annappa, who was in a critical condition, and transported him in a forest department vehicle. He was given first aid at a private hospital in Ammatthi before being shifted to the District Hospital in Madikeri for further treatment. Villagers have demanded a permanent solution to the recurring elephant menace in Kannangala, Yadur and Hachinadu villages, which fall under the Ammatthi section of the Virajpet Forest Range. They urged the authorities to formulate a long-term plan to prevent frequent human-elephant conflicts in the region.
