Ranchi: Taking a dig at PM Narendra Modi for his public appeal to cut down fuel, buying gold and pushing for work from home to conserve foreign exchange amid the fuel supply disruptions due to West Asia crisis a day earlier, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Monday questioned the PM and the BJP over the grand roadshows in Gujarat.“This convoy of thousands of vehicles is moving on water, not fuel. After telling the common people to think in the interest of the country by cutting down on fuel use and using public transport, they (BJP) have so far conducted 3 roadshows today. Is BJP above the interest of the nation?” a JMM wrote in a post on X. In a string of tweets, the party also accused the BJP-led Union govt of making false promises to the people and weakening the country’s economy after assuming office in 2014.“The public pays taxes, endures inflation, battles joblessness and others, and in the end, also listens to sermons too — Wow, what an ‘Amrit Kaal’!,” it said. “The common man has only been handed sacrifices, inflation, and speeches. After 12 years of “double engine” politics, if the solution to the country’s economy is that the people eat should less, drive less, buy less, and live less— then the question must be asked: Where did all this development happen in so many years?,” read another tweet.Reacting to JMM’s posts, state BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo said that while many countries have already plunged into crisis since the tensions in West Asia, India has managed to do fairly well due to foresightedness of the PM without putting any extra load on citizens.“But it is also true that the situation now is worsening due to the global crisis. Extra ordinary situation demands extraordinary actions and PM’s appeal must be seen in that light and embraced positively. Our major chunk of foreign reserve is being spent on energy purchase. Hence, it is everyone’s duty now to do their bit in saving our resources,” he said.
