Ranchi: The Jharkhand high court on Thursday directed the Union and state govts to formulate a standard operating procedure (SOP) to trace the Aadhaar card details of missing persons. A bench of Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad and Justice Arun Kumar Rai made the directive while hearing a petition filed by Chandramuni Urain, whose minor daughter has been missing from Gumla since 2019.The court was informed that the police filed an application to trace the Aadhaar card details of the minor victim with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The court, however, observed that the UDAI’s permission to the police to access details of the victim took quite a long time. It also observed that the long process hampered the investigation of cases. Hence, a mechanism in the form of a standard operating procedure (SOP) needs to be developed to speed up the tracing of Aadhaar cards required by the police. As not all cases of human trafficking, involving children were reported to the police, the SOP was required for immediate intervention by the lawkeepers to trace the whereabouts of the victims, the bench added.
