“During the turbulent days of 1984, when large-scale violence was reported against Sikhs across the country, my father ensured their safety in the area. Many Sikh families took shelter at Singh Mansion, Kunti Niwas, and a nearby school, where arrangements were made to protect them,” Sanjeev said.Sardar Amarjeet Singh, who was at the Gurudwara during Sanjeev’s visit, said, “Suryadev Singh was among those who stood by us.” Sardar Rajendra Singh Chawla said the memory of the riots cannot be forgotten and acknowledged the support extended during that difficult period.Political observers believe that by raising the issue of the 1984 riots, Sanjeev Singh also targeted Congress, holding its then leadership responsible for the violence. With a significant Sikh population in the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation area, Singh appeared confident that the community’s backing would strengthen his electoral prospects.
