Mysuru: JSS Science and Technology University (JSS STU) will host the Japan–India academic exchange initiative “Wondervogel–II Program” from Feb 18.The eight-day programme is being organised in collaboration with Hokkaido University, Central Food Technological Research Institute and University of Mysore. A 35-member delegation from Japan, including 16 students and three faculty members from Hokkaido University, will participate.SJCE principal and dean C Nataraju told TOI that the initiative aims to promote cross-cultural learning and collaborative research through expert lectures, laboratory exposure, field visits, joint seminars and academic discussions focusing on food systems, environmental sustainability, agriculture and human health. He added the 10-member Indian team comprising seven students and three faculty members had earlier visited Japan under a similar programme.The programme will be inaugurated in the presence of Suttur Mutt seer Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami, and will be presided over by C G Betsurmath, executive secretary of JSS Mahavidyapeetha. Several academic heads from partner institutions are expected to attend.Programme convener and vice-principal P Mallu told TOI that the department of chemistry at Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering will also organise an international conference titled ‘Bridging Chemistry and Food – An Integrated Approach for a Sustainable Society” on Feb 18. Around 250 delegates, including international participants, researchers, industry professionals and students, are expected to take part.
