Traffic snarls have become a regular affair in Mango

Jamshedpur: Motorists may face a bumpy ride during pandal-hopping in Mango due to large stretches of potholed roads and the flyover construction works. The Hill View Samiti at Dimna Chowk, Rajendra Nagar Durga Puja Samiti and Shiv Shankar Samiti on Dimna Road, besides Sarvajanin Durga Puja Committee at Old Subhash Colony are major crowd-pullers.Residents said traffic snarls have become a regular affair in Mango as flyover construction has reduced the width of Dimna Road, Mango Payal Cinema Road, and NH-33.“Flyover construction has narrowed the roads. Stalls, street vendors and pushcarts will further reduce road space during puja,” said Umesh Thakur, a resident of Payal Cinema Road. The dust and potholes on NH-33 have become a major concern. Visibility and travelling conditions could also be affected if the roads are not repaired, locals said.Traders and small hotel operators reported a decline in customer footfall.Sarabjeet Singh, a dhaba owner near Eylex Cinema on NH-33, said, “Business has been affected by dust from construction of flyover. Further dip in customers could be witnessed if the situation is not better.”Durga Puja Samiti, which has been celebrating Durgotsav since 1964, constructed a pandal based on Kedarnath Dham at Mango Gandhi Maidan. “How will people enjoy if they struggle to reach the pandal. We request the civic body to speed up repairs,” said Samiti president Nityanand Sinha.Meanwhile, high-mast and street light repair work has begun at Pardih, Gandhi Maidan, Dimna Road, Post Office Road and Sankosai. Additional municipal commissioner of Mango Municipal Corporation Jitendra Yadav said that road repair work would be completed by Oct 11.
