Nagpur: Vipin Itankar on Monday officially assumed charge as the 52nd commissioner of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). He took over the post following the transfer of Abhijeet Chaudhari, who was appointed as the metropolitan commissioner of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).Itankar assumed charge at the NMC headquarters on Monday. Additional commissioners Vasumana Pant and Vaishnavi B welcomed the newly appointed civic chief.A 2014-batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Itankar, a MBBS degree holder, served as the district collector of Nagpur prior to this appointment and currently continues to hold the additional charge of the post. During his administrative career, he has served in various key positions across districts in Maharashtra.After formally assuming charge, Itankar visited several departments at the NMC headquarters to review the functioning of the municipal administration. He also held a preliminary meeting with senior officials, including the additional commissioners, chief engineer, chief accounts and finance officer, deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, and other department heads, to discuss ongoing works and civic priorities.The discussions focused on ensuring smooth administrative functioning and strengthening coordination among various departments of the civic body.
