Nagpur: Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Monday launched preventive cervical cancer vaccination campaign for girls aged 14 to 15 years at the urban primary health centre in Jaitala. The initiative was inaugurated by mayor Neeta Thakre, who stressed the importance of creating widespread awareness about the HPV vaccine among students and parents.Addressing the gathering, Thakre said the risk of cervical cancer is steadily rising, and vaccination is an important step towards prevention. She urged the authorities to conduct awareness drives not only in municipal schools, but also in private educational institutions to ensure much wider participation. NMC commissioner Vipin Itankar said creating awareness among parents of girls aged 14 to 15 years is crucial in preventing cervical cancer. Health committee chairperson Manisha Atkare said that adequate vaccine stock will be ensured. Chief medical health officer Dr Deepak Selokar said the vaccine will be made available in phases at all the urban primary health centres present across the city.
