Hyderabad: Members of the Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) in Telangana have urged the state govt to amend GO 81 (1997) to permit the preparation of category-wise waiting lists for the upcoming DME assistant professor and TVVP CAS specialist recruitment processes.During a recent meeting with the health minister, Damodar Rajanarasimha, the association highlighted that a significant number of vacancies remain unfilled in each recruitment cycle, as some selected candidates either fail to attend counselling or decline postings due to their preferred location, or fail to take up their duties after being selected. This results in posts lying vacant despite the availability of eligible candidates. The HRDA added that several other states, including Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, already use a waiting list system to address such issues. They also highlighted that central institutions and national-level recruitment bodies adopt similar mechanisms to ensure that vacancies arising from non-joining are promptly filled.Members urged the Telangana govt to introduce category-wise waiting lists within the same recruitment cycle so that vacancies can be filled without delay. They said that this step would prevent unfilled posts from being carried forward to future notifications, provide opportunities for deserving candidates, and strengthen healthcare services across the state. The HRDA emphasised that the timely implementation of this reform would reduce vacancy levels in public health institutions and improve overall service delivery.
