Hisar: With the supply of commercial LPG cylinders disrupted in Hisar district, hostel messes of universities and colleges, as well as hotels and roadside eateries, were forced to switch to wood-fired stoves as an alternative fuel.According to gas agency operator Manoj Kumar, the supply of commercial LPG cylinders to hotels, dhabas, temples and gurdwaras was stopped following govt directives. However, the supply to mess facilities in schools, colleges and universities was not completely halted. “Commercial cylinders are currently being supplied only to those mess operators who have valid commercial gas connections,” he said. Rakesh Aggarwal, owner of Mid Town Grant Hotel, said their restaurant has a PNG connection, so they are not facing any difficulty. “But PNG connections are not available in every part of Hisar. Because of the stoppage of commercial LPG cylinders, many hotel and dhaba operators were compelled to use alternative fuels like wood and coal,” he added. A mess operator at Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, requesting anonymity, said that due to the shortage of gas cylinders, they procured firewood from the market to cook food for students as agency operators warned that if the supply of commercial cylinders does not resume soon, wedding functions and catering businesses may also be affected. The shortage could disrupt several food-related businesses in the district. According to local gas agencies, around 4 lakh domestic LPG cylinders are consumed in Hisar every month, while the monthly consumption of commercial cylinders (19 kg) is estimated at 50,000 to 52,000 cylinders.
