Itanagar: A 30-year-old hotel operator has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl employed at his establishment in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Subansiri district, police said on Wednesday.The accused has been identified as Gulab Singh, a resident of Ludhiana, Punjab. He was running a hotel near the mini secretariat in Hapoli.Lower Subansiri SP Keni Bagra said the accused allegedly took the victim, who was employed as a housekeeping staff at the hotel, in his car on the pretext of purchasing some items on July 31. “The accused touched her inappropriately with an intent to sexually assault her inside the vehicle. When he failed to succeed, he warned and threatened the girl against disclosing the incident to anyone,” he said.Based on a written complaint lodged by the victim at the Ziro Women Police Station on Aug 3, a case was registered under Section 74 of the BNS, read with Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, the officer added.After the incident, the accused fled Ziro but was later tracked down and apprehended from Naharlagun with assistance from the Nirjuli police team. The case is under investigation.
