Chandigarh: The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) has kept power tariff unchanged for 2026–27, providing relief to 83.79 lakh consumers across the state. The decision, to take effect from April 1, came after hearings on the annual revenue requirement (ARR) petitions of UHBVNL and DHBVNL, which projected a revenue gap of Rs 4,484.71 crore. Despite this, the commission chose not to increase tariffs.HERC said ARR was kept revenue-neutral by focusing on efficiency measures such as improved billing and collection, better receivables management, optimisation of power procurement and reduction in losses. The tariff order was signed by chairman Nand Lal Sharma and members Mukesh Garg and Shiv Kumar after public hearings in Panchkula and other cities, where consumers opposed any hike. The commission also issued directions to improve sector efficiency. It fixed distribution losses of UHBVNL at 9.3% and asked discoms to focus on feeder-level monitoring to reduce losses. Measures to strengthen the Haryana Power Purchase Centre and demand-side management were also emphasised. For agriculture, a subsidy provision of Rs 7,870.32 crore has been made. Farmers will pay 10 paise per unit against an actual cost of Rs 7.48 per unit. Eligible applicants for tubewell connections will also be allowed a one-time load enhancement till May 31, 2026.To promote electric mobility, discoms have been directed to set up EV charging stations in key cities.
