Ahmedabad: Considering rising temperatures and existing heatwave conditions in the city, the district education officer (DEO) issued important guidelines to all govt, grant-in-aid and private schools. A circular was sent to ensure necessary arrangements were made to safeguard students from the impact of extreme heat.Ahmedabad city DEO directed schools to prioritize health and safety of students during the ongoing heatwave. Teachers were instructed to educate students about preventive measures to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses. Students will be guided on avoiding unnecessary exposure to the sun, drinking sufficient water, and following practices that help keep the body cool.Schools were also asked to ensure the availability of clean and cool drinking water on campus. The city experienced extremely high temperatures over the past few days, prompting authorities to take precautionary steps. Considering the severe heat, schools were advised to schedule classes for Balvatika through Class 8 only up to 12 noon. Schools were given the flexibility to make appropriate decisions to implement these changes.Special arrangements were also sought for students appearing in board examinations. Examination centres were instructed to ensure adequate drinking water facilities and essential amenities to ensure students were comfortable.District education officer Rohit Chaudhary directed schools not to conduct classes in the open during the heatwave. Schools were asked to strictly follow these instructions to ensure students’ safety while academic and examination activities continue smoothly.
