Rourkela: Odisha vigilance on Friday arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Bargaon police station in Sundargarh district for taking Rs 25,000 bribe from a ‘dhaba’ owner on Thursday. During subsequent searches at the Bhubaneswar and Badagaon govt quarters of ASI Arupa Nanda Das (53), the vigilance officials recovered more than Rs 3 lakh cash on Friday.Das was caught red-handed while taking Rs 25,000 bribe from the eatery owner a betel shop to help him in a case and allow him to run his business smoothly, following which Odisha vigilance registered a case against the accused. Das had allegedly threatened the ‘dhaba’ owner to arrest him if the bribe was not paid. The ‘dhaba’ owner, however, reported the matter to Rourkela division vigilance office, following which a trap was laid on Thursday, when the vigilance sleuths nabbed him.He was interrogated, after which searches were conducted at four locations connected to Das. In addition to Rs 3.31 lakh cash, the sleuths also recovered some foreign currencies of Vietnam and Nepal. It was then found that he had visited Vietnam last May.An investigation into the case is underway, said P K Dwivedi, SP, vigilance, Rourkela division.
