Ahmedabad: The process to appoint a new vice-chancellor of Gujarat University has begun, with steps underway to constitute the mandatory three-member search committee. Two members have already been finalized, while the third will be selected at the joint meeting of the executive council and board of governors on April 10.After the final name is approved and sent to the govt, the full search committee will be formally announced. The current vice-chancellor’s term ends in June. Under the regulations, the search committee must be formed at least six months before the end of the term. However, with only two months remaining, the process has now been set in motion. Sources said there has been a slight change in the selection process. Instead of choosing a member from the Joint Board of Vice-Chancellors, a nominee is now being sought from the University Grants Commission. One member is also being appointed by the state govt. Both of these appointments have already been completed. Meanwhile, Gujarat University has not yet announced its annual budget for 2026-27 financial year. The budget is traditionally declared by the end of March, but this timeline has not been followed in recent years. Officials said the announcement has been delayed due to local body elections. A temporary approval for expenditure through a carry-forward mechanism is expected at the April 10 meeting, while the full budget will be finalized after the elections.
