Water technology company Gradiant is expanding its India operations with five new design-and-build contracts across the semiconductor, printed circuit board (PCB) and solar manufacturing sectors, while planning to increase its India workforce by more than 40% this year.

The Woburn, Massachusetts-based company — which designs, builds and operates water treatment systems for industries including semiconductors, data centres, energy and other industrial sectors. — said orders in India were on track to more than double this year, while revenue was expected to more than triple.

Gradiant has also appointed Hari Prasad as Managing Director, India. Mr. Prasad brings nearly three decades of experience in water technology and was most recently General Manager, Industrial Water at Pentair. He has previously held senior positions across India, the Middle East and Africa.

Gradiant currently generates annual revenue of about $500 million-$750 million, with India contributing around 10%

The new contracts include a repeat order from a global semiconductor manufacturer for the expansion of its fabrication facility. Gradiant will provide ultrapure water, wastewater treatment and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) systems for the projects. The company did not disclose the value of the contracts or name the customers.

The company is also scaling up its India team across engineering, project execution, operations and digital functions. Its engineering centre in Coimbatore supports Gradiant’s projects globally.

“India is fast becoming one of the most important places to build the AI supply chain, from chips to circuit boards to solar cells,” said Prakash Govindan, CEO, Gradiant.

Mr. Govindan said the repeat semiconductor order underscored the company’s capabilities and positioned Gradiant to support the expansion of India’s manufacturing base.

“A fab or a solar plant can’t run a single shift without water, and the ZLD rules here leave no room for shortcuts,” Mr. Prasad said.
