Vadodara: A 62-year-old farmer was allegedly duped of gold jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh by two men posing as policemen in the Chhani area of the city on Tuesday.The victim, Nagin Patel, has lodged a complaint of cheating against the unidentified duo at the Chhani police station.According to the complaint, Patel had gone to a temple on his scooter and was passing a road near an under-construction site when two men approached him. The duo introduced themselves as policemen and asked him to show his driving licence.The men then told Patel that a murder had taken place in the area and that a gang involved in the crime was roaming around. Claiming that Patel’s gold jewellery could put him at risk, they asked him to remove it for his safety.Trusting them, Patel removed his gold chain and rings, collectively valued at around Rs 2.5 lakh and kept them in his pocket. One of the accused then asked him to place the jewellery in a plastic bag.The accused took the jewellery, wrapped it in a piece of paper and handed the packet back to Patel. Believing that his valuables were secure, Patel left the spot. However, after riding some distance, Patel became suspicious and opened the packet. He was shocked to find that his gold jewellery was missing.Patel returned to the spot, but the two men had already fled.
