Kanpur: The body of an 11-year-old girl was found buried in a field in a village under the Bidhnu police station limits in Kanpur on Tuesday morning. The girl’s family alleged that the girl was raped and murdered by a neighbour before being buried in a shallow pit.Police said the girl, a Class V student, had gone to graze goats on Monday evening but did not return. Following an unsuccessful overnight search by the family and police, villagers noticed freshly overturned soil in a wheat field barely 300 metres from her house on Tuesday morning. Upon digging, they recovered the girl’s unclad body, which bore injury marks. Enraged residents surrounded the house of the suspect and tried to commit arson, forcing the police to cordon off the area to prevent violence.Additional commissioner of police (law and order) Vipin Tada, who reached the spot with a forensic team, said: “We have collected evidence from the site, and the body has been sent for post-mortem. The report will clarify the cause of death and confirm if sexual assault took place.” Based on the family’s suspicion, police have taken a local man into custody for questioning.
