Chennai: Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) held a meeting and support camp for out-of-school children with disabilities on Thursday, under joint commissioner (education) K Karpagam. A total of 7,302 out-of-school children have been identified, of which 509 children have since been enrolled in schools and 263 admitted to industrial training institutes (ITIs). A total of 28 children with disabilities and special needs required additional support.Officials briefed families on welfare schemes, legal rights, skill development programmes and rehabilitation support available to children with disabilities. Psychologists also held individual counselling sessions with children and parents to assess each child’s educational, psychosocial and family-related needs.
