Garhwa: Deputy commissioner Pashupati Nath Mishra has ordered intensified action against illegal sand mining, transportation and storage across the district, with particular focus on Shri Banshidhar Nagar subdivision, where such activities are allegedly taking place openly.Mishra directed administrative and police officers to maintain strict vigil and conduct regular raids in Dhurki, Bishunpura, Ketar and Kharondhi blocks. He asked them to take stern action against all those involved in the illegal extraction, movement or storage of sand.The DC also sought updated reports from sub-divisional officers, sub-divisional police officers and officers in-charge of police stations on the extent of illegal sand mining in their respective jurisdictions and the action taken against offenders so far.

Officials were told to coordinate closely with the police, step up enforcement drives and keep suspected offenders under watch. “Illegal sand mining, transportation and storage will not be allowed at any cost,” Mishra said.District mining officer Rajendra Oraon told the DC that complaints of illegal sand mining from several areas had apparently declined following the ban imposed by the National Green Tribunal.Reiterating the district administration’s stand, Mishra said action against the illegal extraction of natural resources would continue. Preventing illegal mining was a key priority for the administration, he said, adding that large-scale drives against offenders would be sustained.
