Daltonganj: Police seized 320 kg of cannabis, estimated to be worth Rs 1.5 crore, from a Uttar Pradesh-registered truck in Palamu district late Saturday and arrested the driver.Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Hussainabad sub-divisional police officer Divyansh Shukla intercepted the truck on the Japla-Chhatarpur main road at Gamharia.The driver was identified as Rajesh Yadav, 45, a resident of Chhatarpur police station area in Palamu. He was booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and sent to judicial custody on Sunday.Shukla said Palamu SP Kapil Choudhary received specific information on Saturday night that a truck carrying cannabis was heading towards Chhatarpur from Bihar via Hussainabad-Japla.

The SP then directed Hussainabad police to intercept the vehicle.Police personnel deployed at Gamharia stopped the truck and searched it. The contraband was found concealed in a specially built wooden compartment inside the vehicle, police said. “The compartment contained 10 plastic bags carrying a total of 320 kg of cannabis. A sample tested positive for cannabis using a drug-detection kit,” Shukla said.Police are investigating the source and intended destination of the consignment. They are also trying to identify others involved in the suspected interstate drug-trafficking network, including those responsible for loading and receiving the consignment.
