Prayagraj: In a major infrastructure push aimed at transforming regional connectivity, residents of Chhatnag and adjoining areas in Prayagraj may soon travel seamlessly between Ganga and Yamuna banks without entering the city. A new proposal seeks to link the ring road with riverfront-style roads, commonly referred to as “Ganga Path”, promising faster and more convenient routes for locals and long-distance travellers.Under the proposed plan, people from areas such as Mavaiya, Lavayan, Sadwa, Mahuari, and nearly two dozen nearby villages will be able to access destinations like Bara, Phulpur, Handia, and Soraon via the ring road. They will not need to pass through Naini or congested city routes, significantly reducing travel time and easing urban traffic pressure.The project envisions the construction of four crucial link roads — two in Jhunsi and one each in Phaphamau and Naini — to connect the ring road with riverfront corridors. These links will enable smoother transit between the Gangapar and Yamunapar regions, benefiting daily commuters as well as pilgrims during major events such as Kumbh and Magh Mela.To move the project forward, a committee comprising officials from the district administration, Prayagraj Mela Authority, irrigation department (flood division), PWD and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will be formed. According to additional Mela Adhikari Vivek Shukla, the proposal will soon be sent to the state govt for approval.Officials said the integration of the ring road with riverfront routes will also improve connectivity for city residents traveling to other districts or states. In the western region, the ring road will be linked to Asarave Marg, the Kaushambi route near the airport, and the old GT Road.Meanwhile, the irrigation department is preparing a detailed proposal, and under the guidance of the Mela Authority, PWD engineers are also working on a riverfront-style road plan in Arail.
