Alwar: Four people, including three children, died and seven others were injured after an Eeco van carrying women and children overturned and fell into a water-filled roadside pit in Phoolpur village under Maniyan police station area of Dholpur district Saturday.The victims were travelling from Sainpau subdivision area to Phoolpur for darshan at Jaharveer temple when the van reportedly lost balance on the village road and fell into the pit.The deceased were identified as Sapna (32), wife of Shailesh and a resident of Tasimo in Dholpur; her son Harshit (1); her daughter Prachi (3); and Divyansh (3), son of Pushpendra and a resident of Morena, Madhya Pradesh. The victims were relatives and included residents of Dholpur and Madhya Pradesh.District Collector Shrinidhi BT said the accident occurred around 1 pm and 11 people were travelling in the van. He said five injured people were referred to Dholpur district hospital after receiving primary treatment at Maniyan Community Health Centre, while two others were discharged after treatment.ASI Lakhansingh of Maniyan police station said the children and women inside the van raised an alarm after it fell into the pit. Hearing their cries, villagers rushed to the spot and began rescue efforts. After considerable effort, they pulled the trapped passengers out of the vehicle.Villagers said continuous rain had left roads in the area waterlogged, making movement difficult. They alleged that water accumulated on the road caused the speeding van to lose control and fall into the pit.Following the accident, Shrinidhi BT and Sagwan reached the spot, inspected the site and reviewed the rescue operations. Police have started investigating the cause of the accident.
