Jaipur/Alwar: Monsoon activity revived across Rajasthan Saturday, bringing heavy rain to Jaipur, Alwar, Ajmer, Dausa, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Baran and several other districts. The spell caused waterlogging, submerged roads and fields, damaged crops and pushed several reservoirs towards overflow.Jaipur recorded an average 45mm rainfall till 5.30pm, with showers continuing for the second consecutive day — the first such two-day spell this monsoon. The rain brought temperatures down by up to seven degrees but caused traffic snarls, particularly in the Walled City and other low-lying areas.In Ajmer, a school wall collapsed in the Plaza Cinema area, trapping three cars under the debris. No major casualties were reported.Alwar received heavy rain, leaving several areas waterlogged and causing a sharp rise in the flow of the Ruparel river, which originates in the Sariska region. Farmers reported damage to onion and bajra crops, with some onion fields submerged.Waterlogging also disrupted movement in Umrain, where rainwater accumulated on the Bawdi Stand-Bakhtpura main road, forcing schoolchildren to wade through knee-deep water. Residents said the road has remained in poor condition and turns into a virtual pond during heavy rain.Dausa too received heavy showers, with Baijupada recording 80mm, Sikrai 79mm, Dausa 65mm, Bhandarej 56mm, Paparda 53mm, Behravanda 49mm and Lalsot 47mm in the 24 hours preceding Saturday. Roads and the vegetable market in Mahwa were inundated.Khandar in Sawai Madhopur recorded the highest rainfall in the recent spell at 175mm in the 24 hours ending Friday evening. Several places in Baran, Kota, Dholpur, Bharatpur, Alwar, Dausa and Tonk received one to three inches of rain.Rising water levels led to the opening of two gates each of Bharatpur’s Bandh Baretha dam and Dholpur’s Parvati dam. Parvati dam released 2,200.76 cusecs. Ram Sagar dam in Bari overflowed, with around 1.5 feet of water flowing over its spillway, while Mansarovar dam in Sawai Madhopur also overflowed.The Met office has forecast continued rain activity in Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota and Ajmer divisions, with heavy rainfall likely at some places in the coming days.
