Ajmer: A boundary wall of a school near Plaza Cinema in Ajmer district collapsed Saturday, damaging three cars parked outside the school. No one was injured in the incident.The wall of Arya Putri Senior Secondary School collapsed around 7:15 am, shortly before it was scheduled to begin. The noise alerted locals, who rushed to the spot and informed police. Police reached the spot and contacted the school management.School principal Seema Sharma said the management was unaware that the wall was weak. “We celebrated the Independence Day function and the tent was tied to the wall,” she said. Sharma, who recently joined as principal, said members of the management committee inspected the site after the incident.She said some students had reached the school, but a holiday was declared for younger children after the wall collapsed. Students from Classes 10 to 12 who had arrived for the Teachers’ Day function were also asked to leave.Market association president Delip Moolchandani said the incident could have resulted in injuries had the wall collapsed later in the day. Another shopkeeper said shops in the area usually open around 9 am, adding that the early morning timing helped avert a major incident.District education officer Usha Kachhawa said the department had sought an explanation from the school and would take action as per rules. She added that directions had already been issued to schools to ensure their buildings and structures were maintained properly.Following the incident, members of the management committee reached the spot and directed that the damaged wall be rebuilt.
