Chennai: Former Naam Tamilar Katchi functionary Kaliyammal Prakasan met AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday and joined the party.She quit NTK on February 24 last year after alleged sidelining by the party chief Seeman. “Though I left NTK a year ago, I continued working for the people. Now, I’ve joined AIADMK to restart my political journey,” Kaliyammal told reporters after calling on EPS in Chennai.Defending her switch despite criticising both the Dravidian majors, Kaliayammal said she was happy to join a party that was led by a Tamilian who rose from a ordinary family. “The decision was not mine alone, but a collective one,” she added. Kaliyammal said EPS and AIADMK seniors would decide on the posting to be given for her.Hitting out at the DMK govt, the state’s people would give their verdict on the DMK’s performance in the polls, she said.On recent sexual crimes against girls and children, Kaliyammal called for stern punishments to instil fear among perpetrators. “Though I oppose capital punishment, I support it for those who indulge in heinous crimes against women and children,” she said.
