Tehran , Aug 6 : Iran’s Acting Defence Minister, Brigadier General Majid Ebn-e-Reza, has asserted that the country’s Armed Forces remain fully prepared to counter any security threat, stressing that Iran’s military strength is underpinned by its indigenous defence industry.
In a message shared on social media and carried by Iran’s official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Ebn-e-Reza said that while the power of Iran’s adversaries is steadily declining, the nation’s armed forces are equipped to respond decisively to any challenge through domestically developed military capabilities.
He also claimed that countries seeking security and military superiority through foreign arms purchases would eventually recognise that Iran’s homegrown defence technology surpasses other systems in the region.
The remarks come against the backdrop of renewed tensions between Tehran and Washington following fresh warnings from US President Donald Trump. Speaking earlier this week, Trump said Iran would be “hit very hard” if the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened “very soon.”
The Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, is a vital global energy corridor through which significant volumes of crude oil and liquefied natural gas are transported.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump claimed the United States was engaged in “very good discussions” with Iran and suggested the issue of reopening the Strait of Hormuz could be resolved rapidly. He also described the situation as Iran’s “last chance before decapitation” and said the Strait could reopen “literally by tomorrow.”
However, Tehran has firmly denied that any negotiations are currently taking place with Washington.
Addressing a press briefing in Tehran, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei dismissed Trump’s claims, stating that Iran is not engaged in talks with the United States. He added that, apart from Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who is currently on a pilgrimage to Iraq, all members of Iran’s negotiating team remain in the country.
