Gurgaon: Five armed men broke into a newly bought house in Faridabad and looted more than Rs 1 crore in cash kept for a land deal. Mohammad Qadeem, former sarpanch of Shahpur Kalan village, was alone in the house. The men allegedly held him at gunpoint, took the money, then tied him to a cot and locked the main door from outside before fleeing.Qadeem told the cops he bought the house in his neighbourhood around four months ago. He started shifting his belongings to the new house on Thursday. His family, however, continued to stay at their old house.On Friday, he went to sleep alone at the house around 11pm. The men who had masks on their faces woke him up around 2.15am. One of them put a pistol to his temple and asked about cash and jewellery. When Qadeem told them that there was no money in the house, the men assaulted him.One of the robbers kept the pistol pointed at him while the others entered another room and broke the locks of an almirah and a trunk. They took around Rs 4 lakh from the almirah and nearly Rs 1 crore from the trunk.Qadeem told police that the cash was kept for a land deal. He got the money after selling a plot in Quraish Pur around 10 months ago and kept the cash at the house for buying another piece of land.After taking the cash, the robbers tied Qadeem’s hands and legs to a cot. They locked the main door from outside before leaving. Qadeem, however, managed to free his legs and reached the staircase, where he started shouting for help.His son, Avesh, who was sleeping at the family’s old house nearby, heard the noise and reached the new house. He freed his father’s hands, following which the family informed police.The robbers also took Qadeem’s mobile phone. They later threw it into a field some distance from the house. The phone was traced after the alarm set for 5 a.m. rang and a field worker brought the phone to the cops. The phone has been taken into police custody as part of the investigation.Police suspect that the robbers knew that a large amount of cash was kept at the house and are examining the possibility that someone close to the family may have been involved in or facilitated the robbery.A case has been registered at the Dhauj police stationunder BNS Section 309 for robbery. Crime branch teams of Faridabad police also visited the house to collect evidence.The incident comes days after a house in Shahpur Kalan was robbed of around Rs 1.5 crore after the family members were allegedly drugged.
