Palanpur: Police in Sabarkantha district have busted an inter-district child trafficking racket and arrested five persons for allegedly selling a newborn baby for Rs 2 lakh.Acting on directives from DIG Nirendrasinh Yadav of the Gandhinagar division and Sabarkantha SP Partharajsinh Gohil, a team from the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), Himatnagar, busted the gang.Cops received a tip-off about a suspected trafficker, Malji Dabhina, present in Matoda village. Based on the input, the police team tracked and apprehended him.During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to selling a newborn from a family in Medi village to a buyer in Ahmedabad for Rs 2 lakh around 15 days ago. Preliminary investigation corroborated the claim, police said.Following the lead, the AHTU team expanded the probe and apprehended four more individuals linked to the racket, taking the total number of arrests to five. Officials said the gang was involved in trafficking infants, with the case pointing to an organised network operating across districts.A case has been registered at Khedbrahma police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
