Times News NetworkKanpur: Anger spread among residents in the Dhobi Mohal area of Chowk Sarafa in the city after several animals died over two days, with locals alleging poisoning by unidentified miscreants.Five dogs died on Thursday after allegedly consuming an unknown poisonous substance, and a bull was found dead at the same place on Friday. Residents and animal lovers claimed that someone deliberately mixed poisonous substances in food items and gave them to the animals.As news of the bull’s death spread on the second consecutive day on Friday, a large crowd of local residents, traders and animal lovers gathered at the spot and created an uproar. They demanded immediate identification and arrest of those responsible and a postmortem of the dead animals.Assistant police commissioner Kotwali, Amit Kumar Pandey, said that on July 30, information was received about four dogs being found dead in the Kotwali police station area, and their bodies had already been removed by the Nagar Nigam. On Friday, after information was received about a bull being found dead at the same place, police sent the body for postmortem. He said an investigation was underway into the suspicion that poisoned food was given, and that a case was registered. Further legal action being taken on the basis of CCTV footage and other evidence, he said.
