Kanpur: Friday remained largely dry in Kanpur with no rainfall recorded during the day, even as partial cloud cover and high humidity kept weather conditions uncomfortable. Though the mercury dipped marginally, residents continued to grapple with sultry conditions.According to the weather observatory at Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA), the city’s maximum temperature settled at 32.2 degrees Celsius. The maximum relative humidity touched 85 per cent.North-easterly winds blowing at a speed of 10.3 to 11.4 kmph provided some relief, particularly in open areas, but failed to offset the discomfort caused by high moisture levels in the atmosphere.The city witnessed alternating spells of cloud cover and bright sunshine throughout the day. At several points, dark clouds suggested the possibility of rain, but no showers occurred. However, the city had received 10.3 mm of rainfall during the previous 24 hours.Weather expert SN Sunil Pandey of CSA University said that increasing atmospheric moisture and the influx of moisture associated with developing weather systems are expected to keep skies cloudy across the Kanpur division from August 1 to 3.He said isolated areas may experience strong surface winds, light drizzles and light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. Intermittent sunshine is also expected during this period, which could further increase humidity levels.Dr Pandey added that there is a strong possibility of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorms across all districts of the Kanpur division during the next 24 hours.
