Hyderabad: A major fire incident triggered panic in a residential locality of Shivrampally on Sunday after flames engulfed a warehouse storing decoration materials, sending thick black smoke billowing across the neighbourhood. The blaze erupted in a godown located in Sarva Reddy Colony, where large quantities of plastic decorative items and flex materials were stored. Due to the highly inflammable nature of the materials, the fire spread rapidly, intensifying within minutes and posing a serious threat to nearby structures. The flames soon extended to an adjacent residential building, raising alarm among residents. Dense smoke covered the entire colony, causing breathing difficulties and forcing locals to rush out of their homes in fear. Fire department personnel, who reached the spot promptly after receiving information, launched an immediate firefighting operation.According to station fire officer (SFO) Chandra Naik, the teams acted swiftly to control the blaze and prevent further spread. “As soon as the smoke began moving towards the nearby residential building, we evacuated occupants to ensure their safety,” he said.Preliminary findings suggest that an electrical short circuit may have triggered the fire. However, officials stated that a detailed investigation is currently underway to confirm the exact cause. The property loss is estimated to between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported, as the warehouse was unoccupied at the time of the incident.
