Times News NetworkKanpur: A telephone call to the state-level Rahat Helpline proved a lifeline for an elderly couple and their pregnant daughter-in-law, who were trapped inside their house after the swollen Pandu river inundated their locality in Banpurwa Majra village of Pipori under Kanpur Sadar tehsil on Sunday.Kaushal Gautam, a resident of the village, informed the helpline that floodwater had surrounded his house, trapping four family members, including his pregnant wife, Suman. He said his wife needed medical consultation and assistance, but it was unsafe for the family to venture out due to the flooding.The helpline immediately conveyed the information to Kanpur district administration and tehsildar (Sadar) Vinay Kumar Dwivedi, who assured the family that a rescue team would reach them shortly. Dwivedi coordinated with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), shared the family’s location and other necessary details, and arranged for the rescue operation. NDRF team reached the spot within 25 minutes and safely evacuated all four family members.Recalling the rescue, Kaushal Gautam said the district administration remained in constant touch with him and assured him that help was on its way. “The team reached our doorstep within 25 minutes,” he said.Tehsildar Dwivedi said the priority was to evacuate the pregnant woman so that she could receive medical assistance.
