Times News NetworkKanpur: Society for Conservation of Nature (SCON) organised a nature walk and river conservation awareness programme at Hanuman Ghat and Sumer Singh Fort complex to mark World Rivers Day. Participants pledged to help clean Yamuna and its riverbank.Local residents, young people, environmentalists and children joined the event, which began with a nature walk from Hanuman Ghat to observe biodiversity and vegetation along the riverbank. Experts later discussed river conservation at a seminar.Orthopaedic specialist Dr DK Dubey highlighted Yamuna’s historical and geographical significance. He said protecting Yamuna was a moral and social responsibility.Lion Safari biologist Dr B N Singh expressed concern over growing human pressure on rivers. He said plastic waste, untreated chemicals and domestic sewage discharged directly into rivers were destroying their ecosystems, requiring immediate and stringent action.SCON general secretary Dr Rajeev Chauhan said Sanatan culture revered rivers as mothers and urged people to serve Yamuna through meaningful action alongside religious devotion.
