Kanpur: A joint team of Hanumant Vihar police and the Crime Branch arrested six members of a fake multi-level marketing (MLM) pyramid racket that allegedly cheated unemployed youths by luring them with job offers in Kanpur.The accused allegedly operated under the name Vin Maker Ayurveda Private Limited and called unemployed youths from various states, offering jobs with monthly salaries of Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000.Police said the gang collected Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000 from each youth in the name of registration and joining, provided them with a general kit, and pressured them to recruit new members into the pyramid network.Police recovered six mobile phones, one CPU, Rs 3,600 in cash, and important documents related to the fraud from the accused.In the case registered at Hanumant Vihar police station, the accused were produced before the court and further legal action was being taken. Police said, “During questioning, it emerged that the accused lured youths by offering attractive jobs with salaries of Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 per month. Once a youth fell into their trap, they collected Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000 in the name of file charges, medical tests, security deposits and mandatory registration.”Police said that after receiving the money through online transfers, the accused either handed over fake joining letters to the victims or blocked their phone numbers. Police said the gang swindled lakhs of rupees by cheating hundreds of youths from three states.The CP said a case had been registered against the accused at Hanumant Vihar police station under sections related to cheating, the IT Act and other serious offences, and they were being sent to jail. Police were also taking steps to freeze their bank accounts and trace other active members of the gang and their associates for arrest.
