New Delhi: Delhi recorded a marginal rise in maximum temperature on Saturday even as the weather department had forecast very light rain.India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Sunday, with a wet spell likely across large parts of northwest India, accompanied by gusty winds. Light to very light rain has also been forecast for Monday and Tuesday.On Saturday, the maximum temperature at Safdarjung, the city’s base station, was recorded at 33.6 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal and slightly higher than Friday’s 32.6 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature settled at 18.8 degrees Celsius, close to normal and lower than Friday’s 20.6 degrees Celsius.According to IMD, Sunday’s maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover between 30-32 degrees Celsius and 20-21 degrees Celsius, respectively, with a marginal drop in daytime temperatures.The department also forecast very light to light rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong surface winds, with gusts reaching up to 50 kmph on Sunday, and similar conditions on March 30 and 31.Meanwhile, air quality remained in the moderate category. The 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) at 4pm on Saturday stood at 154, compared with 144 a day earlier. AQI is expected to stay moderate over the next week.
