Panaji: The Enough is Enough movement is preparing to push forward its petitions on the TCP’s 17A this week, said Justice Ferdino Rebello while inaugurating the organisation’s permanent office in Panaji.He said that a fresh letter will be sent to chief minister Pramod Sawant challenging the presence of offshore casinos, citing legal provisions under the Gambling Act, arguing that their operation in the Mandovi river violates existing rules. “We sent one letter earlier but I will be writing again, explaining why these casinos cannot operate there,” he said, adding that the letter is expected to be sent this week.He said the responsibility now lies with govt to act on these demands. “If the govt does not respond, people will have to consider whether another govt should do it,” he said.He said the movement would encourage political parties to select candidates who have worked for public causes rather than those driven by business interests. “There are good people who can come up. We must ensure the right ones are chosen,” he added.He further said that the campaign will expand steadily in the coming months at the grassroots level. Committees are being planned across all talukas, which will in turn be built from village-level groups. “Our first task is to consolidate our base. We are still in the process of covering all talukas. Once our full structure is in place, decisions will be taken collectively,” he said.Although govt has not officially accepted the movement’s demands, the leader pointed to what he described as indirect results.To push grassroots change, the movement has drafted a resolution for gram sabhas and panchayats, urging them to deny land conversion permissions, especially in hills and paddy fields, without proper surveys and record verification. This includes checking topographical data and traditional records. The draft has been circulated to several panchayats to encourage firm local action.
