Calangute: Commuters on the busy Saligao-Pilerne industrial estate road raised an alarm on Tuesday after excavation of the road was taken up barely three months after it was hotmixed. The digging has been started to repair a broken water pipeline and stop water leakage, according to the contractor on the site. The road has been repeatedly dug up and repaired during the last two years for various infrastructure and utility works, including twice by the water resources department and the public works department for laying water pipelines to the new water treatment plant opposite the Saligao seminary and the water pumping station at Boa Viagem, Calangute. However, both the plants are yet to start. When it was pointed out that there was no sign of water leakage at the spot, the contractor said the water supply was stopped to carry out the repairs. “If they continue to dig like this, the road is again going to be a mess for months,” a local said.
