Kollam: A fast-track special court on Wednesday sentenced a 77-year-old man to 120 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 6 lakh for the repeated sexual assault of a minor girl over a period of two years. The accused has been identified as Nelson of Perinad village.The prosecution stated that the accused brutally sexually assaulted the 10-year-old victim on multiple occasions between 2020 and 2022. The crime came to light after the survivor’s teacher noticed something amiss and intervened.According to the charges, Nelson would give the girl’s father alcohol when he was on his way to work, and then proceed to assault the child. The abuse continued for two years.The court, recognizing the trauma suffered by the child, directed district legal services authority to provide her with compensation from victim compensation scheme.
